Doula, Day Care, and Cabinets!

Lots of progress over the past few weeks, while our little guy has also gone from one pound to one and a half pounds in just the past week (according to what I'm reading about baby around week 23/24!)

After visiting a series of day care centers in downtown DC last week, and learning that we would either have 100 unborn babies ahead of us for March 2013, or that we'd have possibility to get in within 15-19 months from now, we found a center a little bit more out of the way (but still just 7 blocks from my office, and 4 blocks from Foggy Bottom metro), where the directors and staff knew the ins and outs of every baby and child there, and there was a palpable warmth and even international feel that I hadn't seen at the other day cares. Though all the day care centers that we have seen in DC are excellent in their care of children and safety standards, this one was warm and personal. We got to the big wait list question, and they CAN get our little guy in next March! So we are officially on the waiting list and unless every child there there has a sibling born soon, we'll be ok!

Last weekend, Jose and Al worked on building cabinets below the (fake) brick wall they had put it about a month before. Our little guy will have his own room, but there is not another playroom option in our DC apartment. So the idea is that these cabinets can house buckets of toys and child/baby things! Al was very careful at each turn to be sure that everything was properly sanded - no splinters!

And finally, we found and confirmed just yesterday our doula for the birth! I had met and spoke with many kind and qualified women, and we are very happy with the choice we made.

So while our little guy is growing and making his own progress, his parents are also making progress in preparing for his birth, day care and play time in the living room! Today is my Mom's birthday, and I'm extra thankful for our little guy and the joys we will have being his parents.

  1. What a relief for you to find childcare that you will be happy with! Having confidence and faith in the people watching your baby will make a huge difference for you when it is time to return to work.

The family room is coming along beautifully, i can't wait to see it's transformation when Nicholas arrives!
